8/2/2024: Away From the Gym

In the photos, I’m using a fitness tool called a landmine. You can design a whole workout around it – in the photos I’m doing three different exercises.

It’s not something most folks would have at home. And one of my favorite reasons for going to the gym where I work is the variety of devices that keep workouts interesting. If you already work out with me, you know what I mean, and if you’re not yet working out with me, I’d love to show you.

But next week I’m going to be away from the gym for 11 days. It’s for an exciting adventure – taking our daughter to graduate school in Ohio. And it will be the longest I’ve been away from my gym workout routine in almost 3 years.

I thought I might use this issue of the newsletter to pose a challenge to myself – commit to you in writing to a workout routine so I’m bound to do it. But a cross-country drive and a big move are tough, exhausting tasks, so how dedicated will I actually be to working out?

My plan is to take some fitness time for myself when and if I can, and to do some movements I don’t have to think about too much – squats, lunges, push-ups, yoga warrior poses, and walking (maybe find some good hills for my walks). And I’ll want to take some time for stillness, too – just sit and breathe.

But we all know plans can go sideways. And when I return, I might face that problem I wrote about last week – how to get motivated again. The answer: get back into the gym and just do it. Having cool gadgets like a landmine will help.

And no matter what happens, I’ll keep you posted!
