About Chip

When I started teaching seventh grade Language Arts back in 1995, I had a plan – I’d teach for 30 years and get a full pension at age 58.
Well, the plan sure has changed! Here I am at 58, and I’m still teaching. Now it’s fitness and yoga. And I feel like I’ll be doing this for quite a few more years. After all, what interests me most is helping people to stay fit as long as they can.
I can and do work with all kinds of people, from kids to super-senior citizens. I’ve worked with high-level athletes and with those who fear and loathe the gym or the yoga studio. And I’ve found that all functional movement is adaptable – we’re all athletes of life.
In 2013, my wife Anna left our jobs as teachers – she opened Yoga Bird studio in Fort Myers, Florida. I homeschooled our daughter Jo through middle school and became a yoga instructor.
We ran Yoga Bird for 10 years, and during the last three years I became a fitness trainer and turned one of our Yoga Bird rooms into a small gym. Then my wife went back into higher education and I moved most of my clients to 2 The Top in Fort Myers.
Along this path, I became interested in anatomy and physiology – how and why our bodies move like they do. When my wife and I began training aspiring yoga teachers, I taught the anatomy sections of the training. And I’m a teacher as well as a student of breathing, for both purposeful movement and for relaxation and focus.
If you already work with me, you’re aware of how all of the above figure into the way I conduct my training and yoga sessions. And if you’re not already working with me and you’re so inclined, I’d love to chat about how I might help you.
A bit more about my family and me – we’ve lived in Fort Myers, Florida, for 20 years. Our daughter, Jo, did all of the design of this site – as I’m writing this, she’s preparing to attend graduate school at the University of Cincinnati. (We moved to Fort Myers from Cincinnati, and Anna and I are both UC alums.)
My other interests include songwriting (that’s why this page has a music section), gardening around our jungle of a yard, and reading philosophy.
